Repairing Crate PE10 Proaudio Speakers

I have a good friend that has recently taken over a bar and has inherited a pair of Crate PE10′s in the deal. One of the PE10′s has both drivers blown and I’ve offered to help repair it. As I began looking for replacement drivers I quickly realized that there wasn’t a good place to get replacements for this particular speaker. After exhausting my searches for “Crate PE10 replacement drivers”, I began to look for non-factory parts. The 10″ woofer for the PE10 isn’t a problem. I’m going to recommend a 10″ Pyle Pro speaker (mostly because it will match the driver I’ve found). I’m recommending a PYLE PDB352 1.35-Inch 8 Ohm 4 Bolt Titanium Horn Driver
to replace the faulty driver. My hope is that I can drill new mounting holes in the plastic horn that will allow me to mount this replacement driver. The 10″ Woofer that I’m recommending is the PYLE-PRO PMW10A – 10 HIGH POWER HIGH PERFORMANCE MIDBASS Woofer
. I believe it will be a great match for the high frequency driver and at $16.00 (on sale at Amazon), it looks like a great deal. He can fix the broken speaker for $25.00 and I’m going to recommend going ahead and replacing the drivers in both cabinets to match for a total of $50.00. Not a bad deal to get two proaudio speakers repaired!

Update! I received the Pyle-Pro drivers and woofers for the Crate PE10′s and replaced them last week. They are awesome! I had to re-drill the plastic horn to provide holes that would fit the new PMW10A drivers – but once I created a template with a piece of paper for the correct hole locations – it was a snap! I simply drilled the holes, mounted the drivers – installed the horns and the woofers – hooked up the wiring and the speakers now sound great! Not too bad for $25.00 per speaker!
