One of the PE10′s has both drivers blown and I’ve offered to help repair it. As I began looking for replacement drivers I quickly realized that there wasn’t a good place to get replacements for this particular speaker. After exhausting my searches for “Crate PE10 replacement drivers”, I began to look for non-factory parts. The 10″ woofer for the PE10 isn’t a problem. I’m going to recommend a 10″ Pyle Pro speaker (mostly because it will match the driver I’ve found). I’m recommending a PYLE PDB352 1.35-Inch 8 Ohm 4 Bolt Titanium Horn Driver to replace the faulty driver. My hope is that I can drill new mounting holes in the plastic horn that will allow me to mount this replacement driver. The 10″ Woofer that I’m recommending is the PYLE-PRO PMW10A – 10 HIGH POWER HIGH PERFORMANCE MIDBASS Woofer. I believe it will be a great match for the high frequency driver and at $16.00 (on sale at Amazon), it looks like a great deal. He can fix the broken speaker for $25.00 and I’m going to recommend going ahead and replacing the drivers in both cabinets to match for a total of $50.00. Not a bad deal to get two proaudio speakers repaired!

These pro audio speakers are clean, clear, and powerful. They are very tight and have clean bass (no “muddy” low end). These speakers also have very usable equalizer controls. They have low impedance inputs and outputs that make chaining two or more of these (or other active pro audio speakers) as easy as plugging in another low impedance microphone cable and going to another pro audio speaker. This helps to keep the a clean signal so you don’t need to use extra outputs on your mixing board.
They deliver great sound. I owned a pair of Behringer B212 active pro speakers and a JBL 15″ speaker in a cab driven by a QSC amplifier for a few years and have been generally pleased with the sound. But I was looking for a more natural, punchier low end (I also hate to lug around the very heavy QSC amp). These Mackie pro audio speakers have the sound I was looking for and are…..

I play many different types of music with different professional bands. I also play for my church.
The sound we use in the professional bands is a combination of QSC(Mains), Yamaha (Sub Woofers), and Mackie (Stage Monitors), an Allen and Heath mixer, various power amps, Eq’s, compressors, etc…
All great gear!! The church band plays contemporary christian rock n’ roll with the occasional non-secular song. We needed a new pair of main speakers and I volunteered to bring the Mackies in on stands so we could try them because we were considering using mains on stands instead of flying them. They sounded great (they were bi-amped 15″) however; as most of you know they are very expensive!! Our church can’t afford to buy the used ones, let alone the new ones…
A small venue in nearby had recently installed a pair of these Harbinger APS15′s as their main system, a singer-songwriter friend of mine was playing there… O.K. – to get to the point, they sound great! They are paired with….

Pro Audio Speakers are designed for professional sound reinforcement applications. They must be able to handle high sound pressure levels and be tough and travel ready. In addition to these obvious traits, a good pro audio speaker should also be dependable and cost effective to both purchase and operate.

There are several types of pro audio speakers. The two main categories are passive and active speakers. A passive speaker requires amplification, while an active speaker houses it’s own amplification. As a traveling musician, I have an affinity for active speakers. They tend to be easier to transport, and set up for a performance. If you are a nubie, they also allow you to bypass some of the more confusing aspects of sound reinforcement, such as amplifier and crossover setups.

The main purpose of this site is to provide information about professional sound reinforcement speaker systems, while also providing a place to research prices and find the online music store with the best deal! The price list on this site contains pricing information about hundreds of pro audio speakers manufactured by as many manufacturers as I could find. I will continue to add additional manufacturers and resellers over time. I will also review speakers that I am familiar with and provide tips for the nubies out there so that they can avoid some of the p.a. pitfalls that I have fallen victim to over the years.

Please take the time to browse through the pro audio speaker price list (this can be done via the dropdown links on the left sidebar or via the Gear Search tool (also on the left sidebar)). Simply click the “More Info” link next to the speaker of your choice to be directed to the reseller’s site to investigate the speaker further! Do this as much as you like, it costs you nothing! Once you find a speaker you want, simply purchase from the reseller offering the low price!

Thanks for visiting and stay tuned for more pro audio reviews!
